The MTB track Brunssummerheide runs almost entirely through the moorland of Brunssummerheide. This is an area where the forest has the upper hand with some transitions to the heath. The Brunssummerheide is an area that is completely surrounded by buildings of places like Brunssum and Heerlen but the noise of traffic doesn't really come through. You're mainly in the forest with a few exceptions where you ride on the paved road through peaceful suburbs. Furthermore you're in a natural area and it is therefore no surprise that more MTB tracks are nearby. Afterwards you can combine the tracks Strijthagen, Rodebeek, Heerlen together with Brunssummerheide resulting in a total of about 70km and 1100 ascending meters.
Trails through the moorland are usually fast, go over sandy trails and slalom between the trees. This is also the case on the MTB track Brunssummerheide. On the edge of the area Brunssummerheide the track changes from sandy trails to trails on a clay surface. A large part of the offroad trails run on narrow trails with tree roots that clearly come through. Alternately, the paths widen a bit but you remain mostly off road. In the higher density wooded areas you’ll notice that the terrain changes, height differences are more noticeable, trails get more technical but the flow remains. Under wet conditions the track is still good to ride with just a few parts of the track water remains longer.
With its 14km and 283 altimeters the MTB track Brunssummerheide isn't a hard track. The trails are well established and under dry conditions it's a quick and explosive track. In some segments of the track you often have to turn and accelerate after the corners to stay in the flow. There aren't any long climbs on this track, but there are a few challenging short climbs. On a technical level this route a little more for the experienced mountain biker. A descent over tree roots, narrow single trails with tree roots in the corners and a steep climb on a worn path with stones and tree roots gives you an idea of the difficulty. Still sounds boring? Then you have to check out the adjacent MTB track Strijthagen.

The MTB track Brunssummerheide is in my opinion one of the best MTB tracks of South Limburg. It's not too hard on your fitness, technically challenging, has a variety of terrain (forest / heath and height), good flow and is well maintained. This is a track that then I ride several times a year with pleasure. You can ride the track at your own pace, but at speed it's more fun and increasingly challenging. If you ride the track for the first time, you don't have to worry that you get lost. The trails speak for themselves and the route is clearly marked with black and white MTB route signs which are often placed both before and after a turn.
The MTB track Brunssummerheide is one of the four MTB tracks (besides Rode Beek, Heerlen and Strijthagen) that you can ride combined in the region of Heerlen. Brunssummerheide differs in scenery compared to the typical South Limburg MTB track. The heathland is a unique feature for this area which gives interesting opportunities for a MTB track that you won’t see it in other MTB tracks in South Limburg. On the MTB track Brunssummerheide you'll ride on fast technical singletrails on a sandy surface with roots coming through. The moorland does also keep the trails ride able for longer in wet periods. Other features of the track are short and somewhat technical climbs and descents. Looking at the difficulty this is a track for riders with some experience. A large part is also ride able by novice mountain bikers but some climbs and descents have tree roots, holes and narrow trails that require a bit more skill. The MTB track Brunssummerheide is a recommendation if you're in South Limburg, but if you're looking for a bigger challenge you should look at the adjacent MTB track Strijthagen.
